At least one of the photos was tagged with the person’s name, but I’d say there’s something else going on behind the scenes for Alexa to find all the relevant photos – from a specific point in time, too – that might speak to the convenience or suspicions people have about artificial intelligence. Image Credit (Trusted Reviews)Īnother exhibition of Alexa’s prowess was being able to find and select photos of a specific person within a photo library. Even more spectacular was when he asked Alexa to convert the image to look as if it’d been created by Vincent Van Gogh – and having visited the Van Gogh exhibition in Amsterdam earlier this year – even that master painter might have been impressed with what Alexa came up with. Daniel Rausch, Vice President, Entertainment Devices and Services at Amazon, set up a demo where he asked Alexa to create an image of the Northern Lights over Big Ben in London, and within a matter of seconds, she had created that exact image. Someone might think this is naïve thinking, but we’ve managed to grow thanks to Drupal and the community around it. We were focused on Drupal back in 2017 and we are still concentrating on it as vigorously as back in the day, if not even more. Why is Agiledrop sponsoring Drupal events? And why for the first time also a DrupalCon North America? We were a team of 20 people back in 2017 and that grew to nearly 80 full-time employees at the beginning of 2022. A supply hose or tube connects the valve to the tank. Most baths have a small supply shut off valve extending from the wall, just below the tank. The first step in replacing a seal is to turn off the water supply to the toilet tank. ![]() Note: While replacing a seal is a manageable DIY job for any homeowner, the hard part is that you do need to move the toilet (and a standard toilet weighs 85 pounds) so you may need a helper to gently lift the toilet onto nearby cardboard. We’ve outlined 10 steps to replace the wax ring and included photographs to illustrate along the way. Shop Vac or suction tool (turkey baster). You may already have some of these tools in a toolbox but we’ve included everything to ensure you’re ready to get started. If the toilet still leaks when being flushed, then you know it’s not a case of loose bolts. The Perfect Seal ring (see more below), on the other hand, DOES allow bolts to be tightened later and/or the toilet to be repositioned if needed. ![]() Once the wax shape is compromised, the seal is pretty much done and needs to be replaced. (Don’t overtighen.) Usually, if tank bolts are loose on a leaking toilet with a wax ring, even tightening them will not stop a leak. Carefully tighten the bolts with a wrench which will tighten the toilet down against the floor. Today, there are other synthetic and more reliable seals available at home centers.īefore replacing the seal, however, rule out loose bolts at the toilet’s base (under those plastic covers). Traditionally, the seal was a ring of bees wax. The bottom of the ceramic toilet base seals to the floor flange with a flange seal. This flange is the entry into the drain-waster-vent ( DWV) system of the home. Why Toilets Leak at the BaseĮvery floor mounted toilet sits on, and is bolted to, a PVC or cast iron floor flange. Fortunately the fix is inexpensive, and requires a minimum of time. This water intrusion can also introduce mold and mildew into the living space. Water from a leaking seal will damage ceilings, structural members, and floor sheathing if left uncorrrected. The first thing you do if your toilet is leaking at the base is stop using it. The removal of this hard plastic ring will allow the Perfect Seal to be fully compressed and the toilet should then sit flush with the floor.Whether correcting a leaking toilet flange on an existing toilet, or planning to install a new toilet, even a DIYer with a a few hand tools and a hour or two of time can install a new toilet flange seal.Ī typical, residential toilet Signs of a Toilet Leakingĭo you see water on the floor around the base of the toilet? Have you spotted water stains on the ceiling in the room directly below the bathroom? Both are typical signs that the wax ring that seals the toilet to the drain may be old or worn out. This is a common problem when toilets have aged over years. In these situations, the black plastic ring that is inside the gray rubber casing of the Perfect Seal can be removed. Depending upon the height of the floor flange and the toilet horn, there may be instances when the toilet may not sit flush to the floor. below the floor and maintains a tight seal when common toilet and floor movement occurs. It accommodates flange heights from 1/2 in. Unlike wax rings, the Perfect Seal stabilizes toilet bolts and allows the toilet to be re-positioned as needed. The patented seal design combines specially designed rubber gaskets with encapsulated wax to form a seal that is three times stronger than a wax ring without the mess. Whether your flange is above the floor or below the floor due to re-tiling, the Perfect Seal guarantees a perfect seal the first time, every time. Perfect Seal is truly universal and it will work with any toilet installation. And if it was harder, the improvements remain clearly audible, especially in the lower section. ![]() ![]() Everything seemed sharper, better as if someone magnified every aspect of the track.įinally, I did some tests with my KEF LS50 Wireless, my desktop speakers, to check if I could spot the same enhancements, without my headphones. I chose R8Brain for oversampling, but didn’t use replay gain at any moment, and again, the dynamic range was vastly superior with Audirvana. This time, I put my own tracks to the test and I chose a few albums in Hi-Res, that I personally found well-arranged: Justice – Audio Video Disco, Eagles – Hotel California, and Daft Punk – Random Access Memories.Īgain, 10 out of 10, I could spot which was which, and this time the sound difference became much more obvious. Next, I did the same test with the xDuoo TA-30 and my mighty Audeze LCD-X. But, going back to Qobuz, or even Plex for my local files, really felt like a drawback. ![]() Going back and forth wasn’t easy, as exclusive audio access takes a few seconds each time to activate/deactivate. Bass hit deeper, highs are sharper and voices sound more natural. At the same exact volume settings, switching from Qobuz native player to Audirvana significantly improved the dynamic range. I picked a track that I listened to at least one time a day – More Than Just the Same from Infected Mushrooms – and did some back and forth between Qobuz and Qobuz + Audirvana.Īnd to my surprise, Audirvana came up as the clear winner here. Of course, the difference isn’t as obvious as if you were to replace your DAC for a better one, but head to head, on the same system, the player made a clear difference.įirst, I did a simple comparison with the Sennheiser HD800S + HDVD800. I’ve seen a lot of snake oil over the years, but this time, the hyper is real: Audirvana Studio really made a difference and I could hear it right from the start. So, did Audirvana really improve my system? Short answer, yes. All files were either streamed from Qobuz or my own library. Out of curiosity, I also tried Audirvana on my PC, connected to my KEF LS50 Wireless. My headphones? The Sennheiser HD-800S and Audeze LCD-X. It would be nice if Audirvana offered an alternative where redemption is possible. For this review, I mostly used my MacBook Air paired to the Sennheiser HDVD820 and xDuoo TA-30. However are not fans of subscriptions with software. We understand that companies need to survive and that subscriptions provide a form of security. The Studio version does allow Tidal and Qobuz integration, but costs either 6.99 per month or 69.99 per year. The “local” Origin version – no Tidal and Qobuz integration – costs 120 Euros (a one-time fee). The reason is multiple: primarily the playback quality, but also the ease of use, the mature app and the fine search function. You will have noticed that we are particularly enamored with Audirvana. But Audirvana does have a kind of ‘silver lining’ (if that’s the right term for it). Crap in stays crap out… you can’t do anything about that. We really played all kinds of things and practically nothing was unpleasant. And that calmness makes for very pleasant listening. Partly because the calmness is maintained. Especially if we also add the wonderful layering.īy the way, it is not that Audirvana is acting like a surgeon: yes … there is more detail audible, but it feels very normal. This is something that in fact only the best streamers manage to do. And that doesn’t make any sense, of course, but we can’t find any other words to describe the feeling for a moment.Īlso, the imagery is just much bigger. To come up with a cliché: it feels more analog. What is immediately noticeable when we switch from Roon to Audirvana is the smoothness of the playback. Then the system is unprecedentedly slow, which can be inconvenient. However, the system does remain responsive, unlike Fidelizer in “audiophile mode. So the software does have to disable things in the background – like Fidelizer, for example. Now Audirvana explained in our interview that it does a lot to optimize the number of “processes” running in the background within an operating system. And part of that is to eliminate as much as possible of what is not needed. So the trick is to make a system as quiet as possible. All generate noise when they need to get to work. Whether it’s a “big ass Core i7 or Ryzen 9” or a relatively simple FPGA running a program. ![]() Every processor generates high-frequency noise. A PC, of course, is not a “clean” environment. ![]() ![]() The results of tests verified that, in contrast with a control beam, initial cracking loads of strengthened beams increase slightly, whilst stiffness and ductility increase more and the ultimate loads increase considerably. ( 2006) performed an experimental study to predict the loading carrying capacity of RC beams strengthened with CFRP composites. ( 2001) investigated the strength and ductility aspects of RC beams strengthened with an externally bonded CFRP laminate and found that the significant increases in strength obtained by strengthening with bonded CFRP laminates are at the expense of ductility. 2012 Balamuralikrishnan and Jeyasehar 2009) that externally bonded CFRP can be used to effectively improve the desired performance of a structural member such as its load carrying capacity, flexural strength, stiffness, ductility, durability, as well as performance under cyclic and fatigue loading. Experimental studies have demonstrated (Hawileh et al. In order to investigate the behavior of strengthened structures or members by CFRP, various experiments of this innovative strengthening method have been conducted after the 21th century. Therefore, the strengthening technique of using CFRP is extensively and rapidly increasing in the construction filed (Abualnour et al. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) possibly enhances the mechanical properties of concrete compared to other types of FRP owing to its larger modulus and tensile strength. The FRP materials are known to have the high strength-to-weight ratio, high durability, electromagnetic neutrality, ease of installation, resistance to corrosion, rapid execution with low labor, and practically unlimited availability in size, geometry and dimension of these materials (Ali et al. To tackle this problem, Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) has been widely adopted in strengthening and retrofit of structural members, such as slabs, beams, and columns (Bousahla et al. Reinforced concrete (RC) structures are extensively used in civil engineering construction and most of the existing RC structures are in need of reinforcement and maintenance due to corrosion, freezing and thawing cycle, sulfate attack, and physical damage from impacts. The research results explore a new analysis method to conduct an accurate estimation of the structural failure load and provide a reference for the future design of CFRP-strengthened RC beams. Finally, the NSF method is applied to reasonably interpolate the limited strain data for further revealing the stressing state characteristics of the RC beams. Furthermore, through comparing the working performance of six RC beams, the effects of different strengths and different reinforcement ratios on CFRP strengthening performance are investigated. Accordingly, the stressing state modes and strain fields of the CFRP-strengthened RC beam are proposed to reveal their leap characteristics. Then, one of the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP)-strengthened RC beams is taken as an example and the leap characteristics of RC beam’s stressing state are detected by applying the Mann–Kendall (M–K) criterion, updating the existing definition of the structural failure load. Firstly, the structural stressing state mode is expressed based on the generalized strain energy density (GSED) derived from the measured strain data. This paper investigated the working behavior characteristics of six reinforcement concrete (RC) beams subjected to bending based on the numerical shape function (NSF) method and structural stressing state theory. ![]() |
